1983 Mustang GT

Mustang GT

New to the 1983 Mustang GT was a rear facing non-functional hood scoop, 16 spoke alloy wheels (many chose the optional 3 or 6 spoke cast aluminum TRX wheels), and a new 4-barrel Holley 600cfm carburetor, 5.0L V8 engine delivering 175hp. Later in the year a $250 higher Turbo GT was offered with a 2.3L, electronic fuel injected Turbo 4-cycle engine. GT standard upgrade equipment included the 1983 standard new black grille, body-colored headlamp trim, aerodynamic front skirts, rear spoiler, and performance suspension and handling.

Red Mustang GT
Kevin James just picked up this 1983 Mustang GT hatchback. Kevin adds, "It will have a 5.0l engine out of an '88 Mustang with GT40 heads, 17" bullitt wheels, H&R lowering springs, and 5 lug conversion with rear disc brakes. The car is all original except for the TSW wheels on it now. It even has the factory vinyl bags for the T-tops. It is a 5-speed. The 5.0l engine in it now has some issues, hence the engine swap."

Black Mustang GT
Black 1983 Mustang GT hatchback owned by Tim from Cleveland, Ohio. This is our featured Attitude Of The Week for the week starting July 24, 2016. Tim tells us, "I bought it in 1985 when I was 19. I drove it for several years, but then parked it in the mid '90's. About 7 years ago, my brother took the car out of my mom's garage to a local shop and got it running again. At that point, it was mostly stock except a few visual mods. For the first few years, that was okay but after awhile my son and I needed to amp up the performance aspect of the car. In May 2013 we took to removing the motor and trans. Over the course of the next year and a half, the top end was completely gone through including GT40 iron heads, a Comp 268H cam, perform roller rockers, and an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake. This year, the car got new 10th anniversary cobra rims and lowering springs. It's a riot to drive, and was a great project to work on."
